Creatures #1, #2 and #3, 2016, collages and mixed-media on stonehenge paper, 38in x 50in each. The Creatures Series is based on my own subjective experience of the city through the people I cross paths with, on a daily basis. The characters evolve and interact with each other like a micro-society but the figures seem to be floating, placed on a neutral white background with no sense of perspective. The clothing/uniforms worn by the characters and their body positions (kneeling, crawling, bending, jumping, praying…) are reminiscent of my childhood but also contain fragments of daily news anchored in an urban context. My Creatures seem to be spreading into a molecular environment in which each of the figures is driven by an inner force. Found paper, used fabric, strips of plastic or scraps of wall paint, fragments and little objects found on the street are used for the making of The Creatures Series which become creations and products of the city itself.
