The Glowing Home, 2014, neon light and speakers, 20'x8'x8'
The installation "The Glowing Home" combines the Glowing Homeless, neon sculpture of a solitary human figure created in 2011 and a sound installation which transforms ArtBloc, a mobile art space built from re-purposed shipping containers, into a temporary shelter. A sound installation accompanies the work, which features separately recorded voices by people living or working in Jersey City. The songs, which touch on feelings of home, memory, and loss, were continuously played back through a pair of speakers affixed to the container, located in Hamilton Square, Jersey City, NJ. I recorded locals on the street and collected about 30 songs.
