Les Voyageurs, 2015, nylon ropes and eyehooks, L 230ft x H 8ft x D 1.5in
Les Voyageurs is a 230 ft long site-specific and public art installation commissioned by Rubis Mécénat Cultural Fund for the wall along rue des Pétroles of the Société du Dépôt in Saint-Priest, France. For this outdoor and public installation in the suburbs of Lyon, I created a series of forty-two figures using nylon ropes focusing on various gestures and poses of car and truck drivers. I wanted to create a connection between the figures displayed on the wall and the
four thousand vehicles that pass along rue des Pétroles every day. When driving by, the surface of the wall is activated, allowing a series of dynamic shapes to come to life and infusing a human presence and a poetic pause within the urban and industrial environment.
This perennial artwork can hopefully become a landmark and an artistic experience for the numerous drivers passing by rue des Pétroles.
