Exquisite Corpse, 2017, wood, photo paper and steel, H 90in, W 30in, L30in
Public and interactive sculpture created in collaboration with DOT Art, A.I.R Gallery and the Clinton Hill community.
Exquisite Corpse was a public, interactive and community-based sculpture that focused on local neighborhood figures of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn that I got to meet and photograph.
Each participant was either born in the surrounding area or has been living there for more than 25 years. Larger-than-life-sized, black and white portraits of each subject were displayed on the four blocks of the rotating sculpture. With the participation of the audience, the interactive sculpture was frequently changed as each cube shifted and turned to create unique photomontage portraits. In addition, four new resident portraits were added to the sculpture every three months. My intention was to connect long-time residents to their changing neighborhood and have newcomers get to know locals in a playful way. Also, I was interested in creating a place where newer and older residents could spark a conversation around the sculpture.
